1. What is Pinnacle Chartered Public School?

Pinnacle is a new public charter school serving grades 8–11 in the Greater Colebrook region in its first year of operation. We were created to meet the needs of students not fully served in traditional rural high schools by offering a competency-based, highly personalized learning environment.

2. When does Pinnacle plan to open?

Pinnacle plans to open in Fall 2026 following completion of our facility, staffing, student enrollment, and state-required inspections.

3. What grades will Pinnacle serve?

We expect to open with grades 8–11 in Year 1, expand to grades 8–12 in Year 2, and may include grade 7 in Year 3, 4 or 5 depending on demand and capacity.

4. Is Pinnacle a public school?

Yes. Pinnacle is a public, tuition-free chartered public school. We follow all state and federal laws, including civil rights, special education (IDEA), and public accountability requirements.

5. Does Pinnacle charge tuition or fees?

No. Pinnacle does not charge tuition or any fees that could be considered tuition. Before- or after-school programs may have optional costs, but the core academic program is completely free.

6. How do families apply for enrollment?

Enrollment is open to any New Hampshire student. Applications will be available each November, with a deadline of March 1. If applications exceed available seats, we conduct a public lottery.

7. How does the lottery work?

If more students apply than there are spaces, Pinnacle uses a random, transparent public lottery. Siblings of enrolled students and children of staff may receive allowable preferences, but all other applicants have equal chance of being admitted. Families are officially notified within five business days after the lottery.

8. What makes Pinnacle different from a traditional high school?

Pinnacle uses a competency-based model where students progress when they demonstrate mastery-not simply by seat time. We feature small classes, individualized learning plans, real-world projects, Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs), and a strong Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

9. What curriculum does Pinnacle use?

We use top-quality, research-based programs: Odell Education for ELA; Illustrative Mathematics; OpenSciEd for science; Locally developed civics & social studies courses. The curriculum is rigorous, relevant, and aligned to NH state competencies.

10. How does Pinnacle make learning “competency-based?"

Students move forward when they demonstrate actual understanding. They may show mastery through projects, performance tasks, exhibitions, portfolios, or exams. If they need more time, they receive targeted support-not failing grades.

11. Will my child receive individual attention?

Absolutely. Every student will receive: an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP); Advisory meetings; real-time progress tracking; student and teacher progress review every 6 weeks; immediate interventions for academic or social-emotional needs; and small class sizes (10 students average);

12. What is the Software Engineering & AI Learning Lab?

Our Innovation Plan funds a specialized lab where students learn: programming fundamentals; artificial intelligence concepts; robotics; data science; and engineering design. Students apply these skills to authentic real-world challenges in science, math, and community projects.

13. Will all students learn about AI?

Yes, at a developmentally appropriate level. AI is integrated throughout the curriculum, so students learn to use technology responsibly, ethically, and creatively. Each student will have a personalized AI tutor bot that understands their ILP and allows teachers to monitor student progress.

14. Does Pinnacle serve students with disabilities?

Absolutely. Pinnacle complies fully with IDEA. A certified Special Education Liaison oversees services, and we coordinate with sending districts to implement IEPs and 504 plans.

15. How does Pinnacle support at-risk students?

Pinnacle uses a robust Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) which includes: diagnostic assessments; small-group instruction; 1:1 tutoring; behavioral and emotional support; translation services; and transportation assistance (where feasible).

16. Does Pinnacle serve English Language Learners?

Yes. We provide bilingual materials, translation services, sheltered instruction, and cultural support for families. ELL students receive individualized support based on diagnostic assessments and language surveys.

17. What extracurriculars and enrichment opportunities will be available?

Programming will be developed annually based on student interest but may include: robotics; outdoor education; agriculture; arts and music; clubs and leadership groups; tutoring; and academic labs.

18. How will Pinnacle ensure student safety?

Prior to opening, Pinnacle must pass all fire, safety, HVAC, and occupancy inspections; complete a state-approved Emergency Operations Plan; and follow all RSA 189:13-a background check requirements

19. Who governs the school?

Pinnacle is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, including at least two parent representatives. The Executive Director manages daily operations but does not vote on the Board.

20. How is Pinnacle funded?

Pinnacle is funded through state per-pupil aid, Federal CSP start-up grant funds, Title programs, fundraising through NCQE and community partnerships. We do not rely on tuition or private fees to operate.
